The world’s largest three-dimensional sound field
The City of Mexico City had a curious question: how do you go about placemaking with sound?
Coming up with an answer didn’t involve venn diagrams, a simple anthem or a prescribed playlist—in all honesty we felt that would trivialize the matter. No, we did something ridiculously simple: we listened to the city, we recorded the city, and we designed incredible compositions with those sounds as source material.
We enlisted the help of 11 other groundbreaking artists to create a looping, 24-hour soundscape that ran for 10 days straight in the Esplanade de Belles Artes.
The content reflected various aspects of life in Mexico City. And the 100,000 visitors who experienced the event felt the full power of the world’s largest three-dimensional sound field—the full power of the sounds of the city, its people and experiences, all in one place.
